Recent Hip Replacement?

Have you or a loved one had a recent hip replacement? Here are some tips and tricks to help manage those early days.

1) Start Physical Therapy early!

It may surprise you but the earlier you start Physical Therapy after surgery, the better! Getting in to see a PT can help reduce pain, reduce the chance of infections and blood clots. You should expect to see a PT just a few hours after your hip replacement and they will primarily help you perform functional tasks such as walking, getting out of bed, and going to the bathroom.

2) Do your exercises consistently!

This may sound obvious, but this can make your rehab extremely smooth. When you have a hip replacement (THA), the muscles around your hip will get sore and weak. When your PT gives you exercises, be sure to perform them a few times a week to help improve your strength and decrease pain.

3) Prioritize your sleep and hydration!

Surgery is a major trauma on your body and you will be healing for a few months. Be sure to prioritize your sleep and hydration to help your body recover more efficiently from inflammation.
