What is Remote Coaching or Programming?
With it being the new year, a lot of people we will pursuing the “New Year, New Me” and join a local gym. We love this and highly encourage people to engage in a fitness or exercise routine to better themselves!
However, the gym can be extremely intimidating and Googling exercise routines will only get you so far. If you are new to the gym, it might be wise to begin training with a supervised specialist, including a Personal trainer or a Physical Therapist. There are many ways to do this, but here at Athletes’ Edge Physical Therapy, we offer something called Remote coaching or remote programming.
What is Remote Coaching?
This may be a new term to most of you, but it is basically when a Physical Therapy or personal trainer creates a workout routine specific to an individual through an app (for us, we use TrueCoach and love it).
This is a super convenient and safe way to begin an exercise regimen because you can perform it on your own time, it is custom to your goals and gym setting, and it allows for asynchronous feedback to be given.
Frequent check ins via text message, email and through the app to communicate how the workouts are going, how we are going to progress intensity and make any necessary modifications.
How would I know if I am a good candidate for remote coaching?
Remote coaching can accommodate most individuals, but it is extremely effective if you:
Travel for work frequently— remote coaching makes it easy to stay consistent with your exercise routine and modify based on what you have access to
Busy Schedule— since it is through an app, you can perform the workouts as you have time, this means you don’t have to try to perfectly fit into an in-person training session time slot
Continuation of Physical Therapy- We frequently have patients who want to continue to progress their strength, confidence with jumping or sport-specific movements continue their care with remote coaching. This means that we have completed the “rehab” part of their injury, but are helping to reduce the chances of it occurring again.
New gym-goers— If you are completely new to resistance training, it may benefit you to do an a few in-person sessions to master basics and form of most exercises. Then, remote programming would be a great option to continue to progress
Athletes- If you are a HS or college athlete currently in an off-season, our PT’s can help design a strength program to get your ready for the demands of your sport and focus on injury prevention in the process
How would I get started with Remote Coaching?
Most of our current clients are patients that have completed their rehab but want to continue a supervised program with someone who knows their injury.
You can call us to schedule a discovery call to see if we are a good fit and how we will help you achieve your goals.
