Choose PT First!
Here are three reasons why you should choose Physical Therapy before going to your surgeon or doctor.
Physical Therapists are movement experts.
Physical therapists are trained at a Doctorate level to evaluate the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and associated systems and understand how they interact with each other. This depth of knowledge is what allows Physical Therapists to be considered experts in musculoskeletal medicine and keep you participating in the activities/hobbies you love with temporary modifications rather than tell you to “stop doing that for 2 weeks and then try again.”
Physical Therapists are highly trained
Physical therapists not only have to complete their 4-year undergraduate degree, but then go through a rigorous application process to get into Physical therapy school—thousands apply for 30-50 spots and only 16% of applicants are accepted nationwide every year. Upon graduating from their 3-year doctorate program, a Physical Therapist has the knowledge to treat a wide range of cases. From pediatrics to geriatrics, neurological to orthopedic, acute care to outpatient care, physical therapists are prepared for it all. Physical Therapists also have great connections in various fields (surgeons, nutritions, personal trainers, etc.) that we can refer you to if appropriate!
Physical Therapy cost less in the long run
Multiple studies have been performed comparing going to see a doctor first versus a chiropractor/physical therapist (also known as conservative care). In most cases, a full course of PT costs less than one MRI. Why spend time seeking expensive imaging and testing when a physical therapist can find the source of your pain and get you on the road to recovery in less time? Physical Therapy should be your first line of defense against most injuries. Physical Therapy has proven many times to be just as effective, if not more, in saving patient costs on medications, unneccesary imaging and follow up doctor visits.
If you have a nagging injury or even something new that has popped up, we would highly advise seeking out a Physical Therapist to prevent chronic pain and reduce the cost of maintaining your health!
